DAVIS SISTERS, The    
Duo from Lexington, Kentucky, formed in 1949. Consisted of Mary Frances "Skeeter Davis" Penick and Betty Jack Davis (killed in an auto accident on 8/2/53). The two were not related. First recorded for Fortune in 1952. Skeeter was seriously injured in the wreck that killed Betty Jack. Betty Jack was replace by her sister Georgia.

Born Mary Frances Penick on 12/30/31 in Dry Ridge, Kentucky. Worked in duo with close friend Betty Jack Davis, and later with Georgia Davis. Went solo in 1956. Toured with Eddy Arnold and Elvis Presley. Joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1959. Married to TV's Nashville Now host, Ralph Emery, 1960-64. Later married Joey Spampinato, the bassist of the jazz-rock band NRBQ.
